Batfish Shoal

In Best of, Marine Life, Photography, Prose Poetry, Reflections, Renee's Journal

Dark shapes emerge from the underwater shadows and glide like underwater kites, curiously toward me. Each batfish slips rhythmically sideways, this way and that, fluttering ever so gracefully. Camera in hand, I swim alongside them as they watch me with wary black eyes. Suddenly an aura of nervousness, and I pause, watching them go, fading away, back into the darkness of the sea.
