This open water beginner / intermediate freediving course is designed to prepare a freediver to train in the dynamic open ocean conditions. It is aimed at providing the freediver with the fundamental skills that will enable him / her to freedive safely and effectively. This is a comprehensive course where freedivers are taught in the classroom, confined water and open water.

After completing the course you will be able to plan and execute safe freedives in the sea as one half of a responsible and competent buddy team. This course is the most important first steps in getting a solid foundation for open-water freediving.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

- Learn the fundamentals about apnea; the physiology, physics and techniques

- Learn how to equalize in the proper way

- Have a clear understanding of the dangers associated with freediving (blackout & loss of motor control) how to avoid these dangers and how to assist & rescue your buddy if an accident occurs

- Complete set of proper freediving skills that will allow you to execute open water freedives safely and effectively

- Learn about the different freediving equipment, how to maintain it and use it effectively

Practical application: A considerable amount of time is spent poolside, beach, stretching, breathing, briefings, diving etc.

The Primary Care (CPR) course teaches you the steps and techniques for handling life-threatening emergencies. You’ll practice eight skills for aiding patients who aren’t breathing, have no heartbeat, may have a spinal injury, may be in shock or who may have serious bleeding. You’ll learn to how to perform CPR and continue to monitor the patient, so that you provide every possible chance of survival while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.

Because many medical conditions are not life-threatening and emergency medical services are sometimes delayed or unavailable, the Secondary Care (First Aid) course is integrated to teach you how to provide first aid that eases pain and reduces the risk of further harm. You’ll learn to assess a variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and splinting.

Join me on a two day freediving adventure trip in the beautiful and remote Ras Abu Galum - one of my absolute favorite places in the Sinai :)

We'll explore the incredible world-class coral reefs, underwater landscapes, long seaside & desert walks, beach-side chilling-out / relaxing, enjoying healthy, hardy delicious meals specially delivered by Dahab Soup Bar and sleeping in thatched roof huts or on the beach under a sky of stars - whichever you prefer!

DAY 1
ARRIVING IN RAS ABU GALUM & DRIFT FREEDIVE

8:00 AM -10:00 AM - BY CAMEL TO RAS ABU GALUM
We will go by camel on Friday morning, slowly transitioning from the business of everyday regular life into the relaxed and remote setting of Ras Abu Galum :)

10:00 AM - 12:00 AM - SETTLING IN / LIGHT FOOD
Settling in to our beach-side huts and aresha in Ras Abu Galum, we'll enjoy Bedouin tea, light food/snacks and chilling out

12:00 AM - 12:30 PM - GEARING-UP

12:30 PM - 3:30 PM - DRIFT & FREEDIVE
Freediving and exploring the incredible world-class coral reefs and tropical reef fish while drifting along the coast of Ras Abu Galum

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM - EAT LUNCH & CHILLING OUT
Late lunch and chilling-out as I'm sure we'll be famished after all that freediving. Food will be provided by Dahab's Soup Bar!! Vegetarian, healthy and hardy meals - soups, salads, quiches, etc, also gluten free if you skip the bread! I'll bring lots of chicken and snacks from Dahab as well.

The sunsets are absolutely stunning in Ras Abu Galum, so I really enjoy nice long walks along the coast at this time :) We can walk to Blue Lagoon, have a tea there and chill-out a bit and then walk back to Ras Abu Galum for an awesome Bedouin dinner :)

Freediving along the edge of the lagoon in Ras Abu Galum, exploring the coral wall drop-offs freediving a bit deeper than the day before. Another option (if the wind is down) is to explore the reefs in northern Ras Abu Galum, let's see how the weather is!

12:30 PM - 2:00 PM - LUNCH & CHILLING-OUT
A healthy lunch provided by Dahab's Soup Bar, relaxing on the beach in the sunshine, chilling out and enjoying the simple life :)

THE START OF DEEP FREEDIVING!

You're already a certified freediver with some good experience!

You want to go deeper, stay longer in static apnea, and improve your freediving techniques!

The Advanced Freediving Course is designed for people who are ready to take their freediving to the next level! This course is THE start of deep freediving! Advanced freedivers are trained to dive up to -30m. You will be able to really experience the sensations of deep diving.

Much of the course will be spent building on the skills learnt in your beginner course, learning and practicing free-fall technique, advanced frenzel equalization techniques and training tables.

This course is ideal for freedivers wanting to get deeper than is taught in the beginner course. It opens up a whole new world of diving and offers the first glimpse in to what competitive freedivers experience. It is also a great course to enhance your rescue and buddy skills.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

Anyone who completed their level one freediving course and wants additional knowledge and training to dive deeper

Anyone who completed their level one freediving course some time ago and wants to redo the course

THE ADVANCED FREEDIVING COURSE CONSISTS OF

Theory sessions
Breathing and relaxation sessions
2 confined water sessions (in the bay or swimming pool)
4 open water sessions
1 exam to pass at the end

DETAILS OF THE COURSE

You will learn what happens to the body (and lungs) when the surrounding pressure becomes greater and how the body adapts to this (mammalian dive reflex).

You will learn more about equalization techniques and how to perform or master the frenzel technique.

The confined water sessions will allow you to practice O2 and CO2 tables, learn training concepts for static and how to prepare a maximum attempt.

We will refine your freediving techniques, improve your streamlining position, and perform frenzel equalization efficiently while freediving.

You will learn and practice the free falling and how to be very relaxed when performing a freedive to depth.

More rescue scenarios at depth and on the surface will be practice.

MEDICAL

MINIMUM PERFORMANCE REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATION

To successfully complete the advanced freediving course you will have to perform:

Perform a static apnea of at least 2:45
Dive in constant weight to at least -24 meters
Perform a dynamic apnea (with fins) of at least 55 meters
Have passed the exam with a score of 75% or higher
At the end of the course you will be able to freedive comfortably with an experienced buddy to depths of 25-30 meters.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

Anyone who completed their AIDA 2* course (or equivalent) and wants additional knowledge and training to dive deeper

Anyone who completed their AIDA 2* course (or equivalent) some time ago and wants to redo the course

THE AIDA 3 COURSE CONSISTS OF

Theory sessions
Breathing and relaxation sessions
2 confined water sessions (in the bay or swimming pool)
4 open water sessions
1 exam to pass at the end

DETAILS OF THE COURSE

You will learn what happens to the body (and lungs) when the surrounding pressure becomes greater and how the body adapts to this (mammalian dive reflex).

You will learn more about equalization techniques and how to perform or master the frenzel technique.

The confined water sessions will allow you to practice O2 and CO2 tables, learn training concepts for static and how to prepare a maximum attempt.

We will refine your freediving techniques, improve your streamlining position, and perform frenzel equalization efficiently while freediving.

You will learn and practice the free falling and how to be very relaxed when performing a freedive to depth.

More rescue scenarios at depth and on the surface will be practice.

PRE-REQUISITES

Be 18 years of age or older (16 years with parent or guardian consent)
Have completed the AIDA ** Freediver course or equivalent, OR have participated in 5 AIDA ranked comps, within the last 6 years with AIDA ranked results of at least 35m CWT, 3.45min static and 75m
DYN and have passed the AIDA** Exam.
Have completed the AIDA Medical Form
Have completed the Liability Release

MEDICAL

While it is recommended that you have a full diving medical examination, which is good practice, it is not essential to participate in the course. You will, however, be required to fill in a medical questionnaire on the first day of the course.

MINIMUM PERFORMANCE REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATION

To successfully complete the AIDA 3 Star course you will have to perform:

Perform a static apnea of at least 2:45
Dive in constant weight to at least -24 meters
Perform a dynamic apnea (with fins) of at least 55 meters
Have passed the AIDA 2 exam with a score of 75% or higher
At the end of the course you will be able to freedive comfortably with an experienced buddy to depths of 25-30 meters.
