In 2015 PADI launched the Freediver program, an excellent teaching system to promote freediving worldwide. As a freediving instructor of any other agency you can become a part of this new development and participate in the crossover course in two days.
This course is only for certified freediving instructors from other agencies. If you are looking for the full PADI Freediver Instructor Course click here.
During this crossover you will receive an overview about PADI and learn the PADI Freediving system. You will go through a series of academic, pool and open water examinations to assess your ability as an instructor according to the PADI system and you will have to show your ability as an instructor by performing certain skills.
REQUIREMENTS TO ENROLL
These are the current requirements for you to enroll in the PADI Freediver Instructor Crossover:
- have a qualifying freediving instructor certification
- are at least 18
- have a current medical (signed by a physician)
- be an EFR Instructor (or have first aid/CPR instructor-level training with another organization)
When you complete the PADI Freediver Instructor Orientation / Crossover Course you qualify as a PADI Freediver Instructor. Depending on your credentials from your certifying agency you may also qualify as PADI Advanced or Master Instructor.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE
The performance requirements for the PADI Freediver Instructor Crossover Course are:
- Complete these PADI Freediver Instructor course sections:
- Course Orientation
- PADI Freediver Course – Overview and Standards
- Organizing and Marketing Freediving
- Care for the Environment
- Passing the PADI Instructor Exam (75%)
- Make a static apnea of at least 2’30”
- Make a dynamic apnea of at least 50 meters
- Make a constant weight dive to at least -20 meters
- Correctly perform the rescue of a simulated blacked-out diver from -15 meters
- Open water teaching examination
- Confined water teaching examination

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
For this program, you need to have the following materials and equipment:
- PADI Freediver Program Instructor Guide
- PADI Freediver Instructor Cue Cards
- PADI Freediver Touch
- PADI Freediver Quick Review
For the inwater segment of the Instructor Crossover Course, you need:
- Mask, snorkel and bifins appropriate for freediving
- Weight blet and weights
- Appropriate exposuer protection
- Safety lanyard and strap
- Freediving computer
- Whistles, flares, marine radio or other means for summoning aid at the surface

PADI Freediver Instructor Crossover Course (2 days): 500€
Or with EFRI (+1 day): 850€
The price includes 1 pool examination, 1 open water examination, classroom sessions, written exam and the PADI Freediver Instructor Materials Package:
- PADI Freediver Touch (45€ value)
- PADI Instructor Guide (37€ value)
- PADI Instructor Cue Cards (35€ value)
Personal freediving equipment is not included (i.e. wetsuit, mask, fins, snorkel, weight belt). Lead weights are provided.
The PADI Freediver Instructor Application Fee (approx. 82€) and EFR Instructor Application Fee (approx. 110€) are not included. These can be paid directly to PADI when you submit your applications.
